The New Normal is apparently to censor what you see on TV in Utah

NBC’s Utah affiliate KLS, which is owned by Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has decided that they have the right to choose what their viewers get to tune into and apparently this isn’t the first time. Last season KLS decided not to air The Playboy Club and now this season they will not air a new comedy The New Normal. What is this world coming to? I am even more confused at the fact that they are ok with airing shows like Law and Order SVU which is violent in nature but they are not willing to air The New Normal because its story is about a single mother and two men in a relationship that are trying to have a family; the single mother decided to be their surrogate ? How does a television station have the right to choose what we as a viewer get to see? We wonder why we haven’t grown as a society. This makes me sick and angry. In a recent article in The Salt Lake Tribune Jeff Simpson the CEO of KSL’s parent company said “For our brand, this program feels inappropriate on several dimensions, especially during family viewing time.”

So instead of opening viewers eyes to a great program that may change some peoples views they have decided that if you’re in their viewing area you can’t even see and make the choice to turn the channel. Of course One Million Moms has stepped in and boycotted the show as well but there is no surprise there, they don’t want their children to grow, learn & accept others no matter what their differences. The kind of moms we all strive to be, clearly. Luckily another Utah channel has stepped up and will air the show in a different time slot on Saturday nights, the show will air on NBC on Tuesday nights everywhere else.

It is so scary to me people think this is ok and that I live in a world that is trying to control the things I see, read and do. What happened to freedom of speech?
